Rolf Benz

The architecture of comfort.

Owning a sofa from Rolf Benz is an expression of good taste; building one is a passion. For more than four decades now, Rolf Benz AG & Co.KG of Nagold has pursued this passion as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of upholstered furniture.

In 1964, Rolf Benz, a time-served upholsterer working in a leading position in a Nagold-based upholstered furniture manufacturer, left to set up his own company. His business idea was to satisfy people’s need for more functionality in their living rooms. The very first modular upholstered furniture range, “Addiform”, became a great hit:

The mobile living room landscape from Rolf Benz consisted of variable, individual elements that could also be arranged in a corner layout around the television – something that was increasingly becoming a feature in people’s lives. The living room was no longer “kept for best” and only used on special occasions. Instead, it had become an everyday meeting and communication point for the whole family.

The success of “Addiform” continued. Upholstered furniture from Rolf Benz not only was in tune with the spirit of the age, it was even decidedly ahead of its time. Thanks to cooperation with famous designers, three guiding principles were established: Creative design, excellent comfort and high quality. The company’s success is still rooted in these principles today.

Within a short time, the headquarters in Nagold grew from 35 employees in 1964 to a workforce several hundred strong. In 1974, a completely new plant was built on a green-field site in nearby Mötzingen. Even today, around 400 staff build and cover Rolf Benz upholstered furniture there.

In the meantime the Rolf Benz AG & Co. KG has grown to a scale making it the market leader amongst premium upholstered furniture manufacturers in Germany. In the German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), the company has succeeded in establishing an excellent level of recognition to set it apart from its competitors. Other core markets in Europe include the Benelux countries, the UK and, within the past few years, Russia. Rolf Benz can also be found in the main urban centres of America, Asia and Australia.

The company regularly presents its new products and ranges at the international furniture fairs in Cologne and Milan. Selected famous designers ( for example Christian Werner/Germany, Greutmann und Bolzern/Swiss,Mauro Lipparini/Italy) work for Rolf Benz and their designs have repeatedly won awards from national and international design institutions. Most recently, the Rolf Benz 6900 sofa range won the “red dot award product design 2005” of the Design Centre of North Rhine-Westphalia in Essen.

Rolf Benz upholstered furniture is designed specifically with the customer in mind. The company has developed sofa ranges that can be individually adapted to the customers’ individual body dimensions in terms of size, seat depth and seat firmness.

Premium upholstered furniture is and remains the core expertise of Rolf Benz, irrespective of whether we are talking about sofas, modular ranges, armchairs or chairs: Rolf Benz – The architecture of comfort.

mono

Design
The refined table at its best.

For over forty years mono has been developing products in cooperation with designers. The first one was mono-a in 1959 with Professor Peter Raacke. Warmers, candleholders and accessories with Fried Ulber further extended the tabletop program. Ralph Krämer designed the dynamic filio flatware and other table accessories with equal elan. The teapot and coffee maker designed by Tassilo von Grolman have become design icons. mono entered new territory with the gemiini series designed by Mikaela Dörfel, which proved the marriage of porcelain and stainless steel a great success. The archetype tools flatware and accessory knife series designed by Michael Schneider, reminiscent of our earliest ancestors, are an homage to design and function.

mono-Awards

The functional elements (handle, bowl, blade) of the stainless steel flatware mono-a revert to a clean and clear basic form. An above average uniformity is achieved between the various components of a set. The functional demands made of eating utensils is attained.“

This was the statement issued by the jury that bestowed the „Good Form“ award to our mono-a flatware in 1973. Since then numerous mono items have received awards and distinctions, and are in the permanent collections of renowned museums: IF Hannover, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art in New York, and many others.
